WhatsApp template checker: what Meta's review will refuse, before you submit
Paste a WhatsApp message template and see what Meta rejects — length limits, variable order, a variable at the start, buttons, footers, promotional wording on a utility template — with the India rate for its category.
Paste the header, body, footer and buttons of a WhatsApp message template and read what Meta’s review will refuse before you submit it: a body over 1,024 characters, variables out of order or at the very start, a variable in a footer or a button label, more than ten buttons, tabs, runs of spaces — and the softer things review sends back most often, like promotional wording on a utility template. Nothing is sent anywhere.
What Meta's review will say
Nothing here that Meta refuses. Submit it with these samples.
How it reads
Sent outside the 24-hour window, a utility template costs ₹0.115 per message in India, before GST.
The hard limits are Meta’s own and the same ones Linkubit applies before a template leaves the product. The category decides the price: the India rate card has every figure, and the template library has ready-written templates by industry that already pass. A template is only needed outside the 24-hour window — inside it, a reply is free-form (how the window works).

How to check a WhatsApp template in 3 steps
- Paste the template — body, header and footer if you have them, with variables as {{1}}, {{2}} — and pick its category: utility, marketing or authentication.
- Read the verdicts. Each line names the rule Meta's review applies and whether the template passes it: length, variable order, a variable at the start or end, buttons, footers, promotional wording on a utility template.
- Fix, re-check, then submit in WhatsApp Manager or through your provider. A template that passes here still goes to Meta's review; it just does not fail on the things that can be checked in advance.
What Meta's review refuses, most often
- A variable at the very start or end of the body, or two variables next to each other with nothing between them.
- Variables out of order — {{1}}, {{3}} with no {{2}}.
- Promotional wording on a utility template — "offer", "discount", "limited time" in a message categorised as utility gets it recategorised as marketing, or rejected.
- Too long — 1,024 characters in the body, 60 in a header or footer, 25 on a button.
- Placeholder samples — Meta needs a real-looking example for every variable.
- A name that does not match — lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only.
Why the category matters
The category is the price and the rule. In India a utility template is ₹0.115 and a marketing template ₹0.8631 before GST — seven times as much — and a marketing template may only go to a person who opted in. Meta reads the message, not the label: an order update written as marketing is charged as marketing, and an offer labelled utility is recategorised or refused. The template approval guide has every rejection reason; the template library has sixty-plus templates by industry that already pass.
Why was my WhatsApp template rejected?
Most often: a variable at the start or end of the body, variables out of order, promotional wording in a utility template, a missing sample for a variable, or text over the length limits. The checker names which; the approval guide explains each.
How long can a WhatsApp template be?
1,024 characters in the body, 60 in a header or footer, 25 on a button label, and up to 10 buttons depending on type.
Can a WhatsApp template start with a variable?
No. Meta rejects a body that begins or ends with a variable, or that puts two variables next to each other. Start with a word.
What is the difference between utility and marketing templates?
Utility is about the customer's own transaction — order updates, reminders, receipts — and costs ₹0.115 in India. Marketing is anything promotional, costs ₹0.8631, and needs the person's opt-in. Meta categorises by content, not by the label you choose.
How long does WhatsApp template approval take?
Usually minutes to a few hours; sometimes up to 24 hours. A rejected template can be edited and resubmitted.
Does this tool submit the template to Meta?
No. It checks the template against Meta's published rules before you submit it in WhatsApp Manager or through your provider, so it does not fail on something avoidable.
Can I use emojis in a WhatsApp template?
Yes, in the body. Not in the template name, and not as the only content.
What is a template sample?
An example value for each variable, which Meta's reviewer reads to understand the message. A sample that is a placeholder ("{{1}}", "XXX") is a rejection.
Can I edit a template after approval?
Yes. An edit sends it back to review; the previous version keeps working until the new one is approved.
What is the authentication category?
One-time passcodes only, with a fixed format Meta provides, at the utility rate. Nothing else goes in it.
Do templates cost money?
Sending them does — ₹0.115 for utility or authentication, ₹0.8631 for marketing, per message in India before GST. Creating and submitting a template is free.
Where do I find templates that already pass?
The template library on this site has sixty-plus by industry, each with its category, variables, a filled sample and the note on what Meta's review objects to.
