WhatsApp catalogue for business: what customers see, app versus Platform, the setup, and the one rule that makes it worth having
Product cards with a picture, a price and a cart, inside the chat. How to set one up on the Business Platform through Meta Commerce Manager, what to put in it, and why the catalogue has to be the only place a price lives.
A WhatsApp catalogue lets a business show products with a picture, a price and a description inside the chat, and let a customer add them to a cart. On the Business app it is set up in the app; on the Platform it is a Meta Commerce catalogue linked to the WhatsApp Business Account, and the software sends product cards in replies. The rule that makes it worth having: the catalogue is the only place a price lives, so nobody — least of all an assistant — quotes anything else.

What a customer sees
A product card in the chat: the picture, the name, the price, a short description, a button to view or add to cart. Several cards at once for a shortlist. On tap, the catalogue opens inside WhatsApp with the rest of the range. A cart becomes an order message back to the business, and on a Platform number with a payment configuration the order becomes a payment request with a Pay button.
Two ways to have one
| WhatsApp Business app | WhatsApp Business Platform | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | In the app, on the phone | A Meta Commerce catalogue, linked to the WABA in WhatsApp Manager |
| Who sends the cards | A person, by hand | The software — an assistant, a template, a rep |
| Price source | Typed into the app | The catalogue, which your software can also read |
| Payment | A link | In-chat UPI or card, or a link |
| Team | One phone | Everyone in the inbox |
Setting it up on the Platform
- In Meta Commerce Manager, create a catalogue and add products: name, price, image, description, a unique retailer id. A spreadsheet upload does hundreds at once.
- In WhatsApp Manager, connect the catalogue to the WhatsApp Business Account.
- In your software, load the same products — key, name, price, images — so the assistant quotes from it and the deal opens at its price.
- Send a product card in a reply and check it renders with the price.
The rule that matters
One catalogue, one price per product, and nothing quoted from anywhere else. A brochure PDF from March, a rep's memory, a number the customer suggests, a sum a model does — every one of those is how a wrong price reaches a customer in writing. In Linkubit the assistant attaches the catalogue record to every answer that touches a product, a verifier refuses a reply stating a price the turn did not retrieve, and a payment request is priced from product keys and quantities. The catalogue guide explains why this is a rule and not a habit.
What to put in it
- Everything you would quote. A product not in the catalogue is a product the assistant cannot sell.
- Real prices, inclusive where the customer expects them to be. A price that turns out to be plus GST is a complaint.
- One good picture per product, JPEG, under 5 MB. It is the first thing the assistant sends when it names the product; a 6 MB PNG goes through Meta's upload and fails on delivery minutes later.
- A description written for the question people ask — sizes, what is included, delivery time — because it is also what the assistant reads.
Is the WhatsApp catalogue free?
Yes. Creating and linking a catalogue costs nothing; product cards sent in a reply inside the customer's window are charged as a service reply since 1 October 2026, and a template that carries one is priced at its category's rate.
Can customers pay from the catalogue?
On a Platform number with a payment configuration in India, yes — the cart becomes an order with a Pay button for UPI or card. Otherwise a payment link.
How many products can a WhatsApp catalogue hold?
Meta allows thousands per catalogue. The practical limit is what you can keep priced correctly, because the catalogue is the one place a price lives.
